New Set of Wilson Golf Clubs

January 31, 2009

Less than a month ago I had no idea how to golf. Sure when I was little I would follow my father and his friends around the course, but I really had no idea how to play. I used to smack balls in the back yard with a putter when I was a kid, but that really does not count now does it?

While I was in Maui with Kevin Nelson and his family I was introduced to golfing. For some reason Kevin’s mother had it in her crazy mind that I should at least try. I thought it was going to be a waste of money, but I did rather well. Quite surprised myself actually. Duly impressed Kevin and his father and uncle as well. Now I am hooked.

When I got back to school I found out that ONE of my books cost $150! I was not too happy about that as it was the only book I needed, but I found it on for $60 with 2 day shipping. I was quite happy about that.

The same day I was looking on for the price of a set of Taylor Made Burners. I used a full set of those in Maui. Holy smokes they are nice clubs! I still have not priced out an entire set, but I know it is well over a thousand dollars. Looking at sets less than $200, just to see what was out there, I ran across a set of Wilsons that had only been used for one golf season by a gentlemen on his work golf team. I had been emailing Kevin with various sets and prices so I could get a feel for quality/price ratios. When I found the Wilsons he said that he would pick up the set, and that it was a great beginner set. So seeing as the entire set was only $60 and I had saved $90 on that book, I decided to use some of that money to pick up the set.

It arrived a couple days ago. It is not the fanciest set on the planet, but it was cheap and it will work real good for me until I am able to buy a really nice set. The only thing I am disappointed about is the 1 wood. The head is tiny compared to others I have seen, and at least half the size of the Taylor Made Burner. It is about the size of the 3 wood. Oh well. We will see how well I get by with it. I have my eyes set on getting the Taylor Made 1 wood this summer sometime so I can go out and smash Kevin.
