Update: The day after we looked at Invictus someone else approach the seller and purchased her. If you are that person I would love to get in contact with you! Visit my contact page and shoot me an email.
Last night I went with my dear friend, Josh, to look at the sailing trimaran Invictus.
Invictus is a beautiful 41′ trimaran that used to be a fixture in the Puget Sound, Seattle area, sailboat racing circuit. At one time Invictus was the fastest sailboat on the sound. There was even a race honoring Invictus with her name.
Sadly Invictus has fallen on hard times in the past few years. Currently she is sitting on the hard with a huge hole in the starboard hull, and significant damage elsewhere the alone renders her unfloatable.
Invictus is a piece of Northwest history and I would love to see her restored to her former glory. To that end Josh and I visited her lastnight to inspect the damage. It looks bad but is nothing we could not handle. If we do not wind up acquiring her I hope someone else will pick her up and lovingly restore her!
I am posting some photos I took last night for anyone who remembers the old gal.
I am very interested in the history of this boat. If you have ever come into contact with her I would love to hear your stories in the comments below!
Wow! If this is the same boat, and I think it is, I sailed in it on my one and only Swiftsure with the owner/builder (Larry Christensen) and a pickup crew which just happened to include one of the best sailors I have ever seen. Some New Zealander…
It was a gorgeous sunny day and the starting line was filled with hundreds of boats of all descriptions including an American and Canadian frigate anchoring the 2 ends of the starting line. Long story short, by the next morning, arriving back into Victoria, we had won our class on the mid (Cape Flattery?) course but were DQ’d because Larry had forgotten to load the liferaft prior to leaving Shilshole!
Still, it as a great adventure. Sorry to see the boat is looking pretty battered, but definitely was a great sailor!
Love hearing the history! Someone else snagged the boat before my buddy and I did. Hopefully the new owner will get her back out on the water.
If anyone knows who the new owners is I would love to get in touch!
