Initial foray into teak restoration

June 5, 2015

Zippey has a limited amount of teak on her, but what she does have was not kept up by me or her last owner. It has fallen into a sad state of disrepair.

Teak is a pretty hardy wood and recently my research has led me not to replacement but I restoration. Tonight I started the process on one of the smaller boards that I pulled off the boat.

This piece only had a cleaning with a green scub pad. Yes, the type everyone has in their kitchen. They are actually quite useful in other areas too :). So warm water rinse and a scrub pad. The cleaned board is on the right.

Then I came through with some teak cleaner. The cleaner was worked in with the grain by a small brush. It needs a couple more passes and then reoiled but I am excited enough to post results so far!
