I think, therefore I am. I am, therefore I sail

ZDD: Lucky sailing this summer

As many of you know, I have been out sailing every day this summer. This week I am I Port Townsend to have ZDD hauled out and painted. The previous owner told me the centerboard was down, which I had to believe because the cable to raise it was broken. Well he told the truth, part of the centerboard was down. The rest is gone. The reason this is important is for stability. Without a centerboard ZDD is more susceptible to a knockdown, which happens when a gust of wind comes along and pushes the boats mast down into the water. Not having all the centerboard explains some of the issues I had in stronger wind with keeping ZDD upright. The following image is all that remains of the centerboard.
