Finally Back on Linux in the office with Wubi

All of the Web Development office computers at Northwest Nazarene University are managed by IT and contain a Windows XP image that is parceled out over the network. I do not particularly enjoy working on a Windows machine and today I ran across the Wubi project again. It allows a user to install Ubuntu Linux on their Windows based machine to try it out. There is no need for any extra partitioning as Wubi installs as a Windows program. It sits inside the Windows partition and can be remove at any time through the control panel, thus keeping your Windows install safe. Upon computer boot the Windows boot menu will pop up asking you to choose to boot Windows or Ubuntu. It works great and now I have my full Linux development studio setup again. Should have figured there would be a project out there that let me have my Linux without hurting the Windows image. Go Linux!

Check out a screenie. I even got OSX to run inside VMware Player inside my semi-virtual Linux!

Second Beard Culling

After my First Beard Culling I spent a couple days with my new look. The short strap and the longer goatee. Decided I did not really like that so I shaved off the strap too. Amazing what that small change did to how I look. It does seem weird now that no fur folds up on my face when I rub upwards from my jawline. That was kinda a neat feeling. I am liking the goatee for now, we will continue to watch and wait.

Read Through the Bible in a Year Calendar

Back in the 1990s I had on my website a PDF containing a calendar that will guide the reader through the entire Bible in one year. My father created it for the church we were attending at the time when they had their big reading push. I ran across it a couple days ago and thought I'd post it again for anyone interested. It's an easy to follow plan for getting through the entire Bible in one year.

First Beard Culling

As many of you noticed I have been growing out some facial hair. I have a rather full and thick beard. The majority of people liked the beard (mother not included) and I was thinking about letting it grow till the end of summer, but the sides were touching my ears a lot and I cannot stand hair touching my ears. So I trimmed/shaved it. Beards.org has a great compilation of styles to look through. I like the hair down the sides, but wanted to grow out the goatee a bit, so I went with a sort of strap/goatee look. I'll try it out for a few days. The sides may get shaved and the goatee may loose some width, but right now it seems ok.

Portfolio Update

Guess I should do another update on my portfolio for my investment fans out there eh? Scottrade changed how their graphs look, I liked the old one better.

Note when you look at this that growth has slowed because I have been unable to contribute money since January 2009. The total I have contributed so far is $3000. Take note of that younguns. Invest early and invest often, as much as you can afford.

I have had about $1000 worth of growth this past year.

Back in Nampa for the 2009-2010 school year

I had a great summer, but unfortunately it is once again time to get back to Nampa for school . Road tripped it back with Jordan in my 1965 VW Bus. It was a good trip over all. We started around 3.30 PM and the air was hot! We sweated along for a few hundred miles before we gained enough elevation and evening approached to cool us off. The bus complained about the heat as well. Had to pull off a couple times to let the old lady cool down. Jordan snapped a fabulous photo after a short break.

As proof, I snapped this. We were going up hill at the time as well. Not really steep, but it was a long drag.

I figured the VWers will still be skeptical, so I shot a video cruising past a semi right after that picture.

Spent an amazingly hot next day pulling all my stuff out of storage and setting it up. I was sweating so much that my clothes were completely soaked! And the worst part was my shower drain was busted so I did not get to shower until about 11 that evening. Here is a video tour of my apartment. I really like how it turned out.

6 Month Portfolio

Unfortunately since January I have been unable to contribute any money to my IRA, however I have still been able to play around with what was in there. Check out my results over the past six months.
